‘My Culture, Our Culture’
Are you looking for a creative, engaging way to explore culture, community, and identity in your school, community centre, or workplace? We can tailor our workshop ‘My Culture, Our Culture’ to meet the needs of your students, staff, or constituents.
Facilitators Guleraana Mir and Amy Clare Tasker use theatre games and storytelling to discover how your own culture (or cultures) shapes your identity – and how we can better understand and empathise with people of different cultures.
This is not an acting workshop. You will not need prior performing experience, just bring your curiosity and your willingness to try something new.
We have brought the ‘My Culture, Our Culture’ workshop to Rich Mix, London (in partnership with HOPE not hate), ACS International School, CARAS (Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers), Southwark Refugee Communities Forum, the Families in Global Transition conference in the Netherlands, and the New York University Forum on Ethnodrama.
Working With You
Our themes relate well to the secondary Citizenship curriculum as well as Personal, Social, and Health Education. International Baccalaureate students will find drama-based work helps them make practical connections between their studies and the wider world.
For companies and community groups, the workshop can be delivered as a CPD (Continued Professional Development) unit covering diversity training.
It provides a range of transferrable skills for participants ages 9+.
Depending on the needs of your group, we can deliver workshops of 90 minutes, a half day, or a full day, focusing on particular themes of interest to you, and with an emphasis either on games and discussion or verbatim theatre and storytelling.
Smaller workshops can be run with just one or two facilitators. For larger workshops, we can bring along actors from our production Home Is Where… to share cross-cultural stories from our ongoing oral history project.
Please get in touch if you’d like to hear more about how our workshop can work with your timeframe and budget. hello@amyclaretasker.com
